Finding an activity that suits the family, getting online and knowing where to go on arrival are all part of a good stay. Holidaymaker, a Gold Sponsor of the Holiday Park Awards, has shared an app update designed to make those moments more straightforward.
The update, published on the Holidaymaker XP Community site, brings together optional personalisation, WiFi Connect, live information and richer booking details.
Personalisation, with guests in control
New guests see an optional invitation to personalise their experience when they first open the app. They can skip it, return to it later or choose not to use it.
Those who take part select interests and activities from tags set up by the park. The app then uses the content they view, like, dislike or save to refine suggestions for places, routes, events, offers and holiday home sales. Holidaymaker says content a guest explicitly dislikes will not reappear.
For operators, setting up the tags for each site allows the choices to reflect what is actually available at that park.
Getting connected
WiFi Connect lets guests join the park's network with one tap or a QR code through alert boxes in the app. It puts a practical task within easy reach of guests already using the app.
Live information where guests are looking
Parks can display information from connected data sources on Places, Welcome Packs and the home screen, alongside their chosen text and imagery.
Holidaymaker's examples include surf conditions and wind speed. What guests see depends on the information the operator connects and configures for its site.
More detail about the stay
The update also expands the information booking cards can display. Depending on the park's booking system, this can include the unit or pitch name, images and location, key codes, check-in and check-out times and payment schedules.
Availability varies between booking systems, and the update lists some features as still to come for particular systems. Parks should check which details their own integration supports.
Where location information is supported, guests can access coordinates and a what3words reference, with links to their map app and the in-app site map. Key-code support displays a code set by the operator, such as a lock-box or keypad code; it does not unlock accommodation digitally.
Why this matters for parks
Useful information at the right moment can help guests feel more confident about their stay. The aim is to make everyday tasks easier while giving parks ways to tailor their content to different interests.
For operators considering their own guest app, the update offers useful questions to explore: how personalisation is configured, how guests' choices are handled and which booking details their existing systems can support.
